High-VG E-Liquid: Buying Guide
What Is High-VG E-Liquid?
High-VG e-liquid refers to any vape juice containing a high percentage of vegetable glycerine – typically 70 percent or greater – as its base. Vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) are the two bases used in most e-liquids. Varying the ratio of those two base liquids changes the properties of the resulting vape juice.
If you’re an experienced vaper using high-end vaping hardware, high-VG e-liquid is probably the ideal type of vape juice with which to complete your vaping experience.
What Are the Benefits of High-VG E-Liquid?
Vegetable glycerine is a thick liquid, and it has a vaguely sweet flavour. In a high-VG e-liquid, those properties will influence the characteristics of the vape juice in several ways.
- A high-VG e-liquid produces thick, full vapour clouds. Many people enjoy the creamy sensation in the mouth when exhaling the vapour of a high-VG e-liquid, and this is the ideal type of vape juice for cloud chasing.
- The fact that VG has a slightly sweet flavour of its own makes it ideal for e-liquids with sweet flavour profiles. An e-liquid sweetened heavily with sucralose leaves deposits that can shorten an atomizer coil’s life. A high-VG e-liquid can taste sweet without the addition of copious amounts of sucralose.
- High-VG e-liquids are ideal for low-nicotine vaping applications. Most people who use low-nicotine e-liquids vape for the flavour rather than the throat hit. A high-VG e-liquid is very smooth to inhale and produces little throat hit.
- For reasons we’ll explain shortly, a high-VG e-liquid is almost always the best choice for high-end vaping hardware.

What Vaping Equipment Works Best With High-VG E-Liquid?
Compared to PG, VG has a slightly higher boiling point and therefore works best with vaping devices that operate at higher wattages. In addition, as mentioned above, a high-VG e-liquid is much thicker than a high-PG e-liquid and requires a vape tank with an atomizer coil that has large wick openings. If you use a tank with smaller wick openings, your coil’s wick will have difficulty replenishing itself between puffs. You’ll experience harsh “dry hits” and may even burn your coil’s wick as a result.
