What Is a Vape Mod?
A vape mod is any vaping device with a shape other than that of a traditional e-cigarette. Box mods are the most common types of vape mods; they're a bit similar in shape to decks of cards or cigarette packs.
People buy mods because they are superior to traditional e-cigarettes in almost every way. Buying a vape mod gives you access to vastly increased battery life and an advanced chipset capable of varying the device's wattage, setting a temperature limit for the atomizer coil, monitoring safety parameters and more.
Think of it this way: The primary purpose of a traditional e-cigarette is to provide a viable smoking alternative that allows you to stop using combustible tobacco. A vape mod is for those who have already discontinued tobacco use permanently and now vape for the pleasure of it.
What Does a Vape Mod Kit Include?
When you use a traditional e-cigarette, the e-liquid generally comes in the form of a disposable cartridge. You screw on the cartridge and vape, and when the cartridge no longer produces flavour, you unscrew the cartridge and throw it away. A vape mod kit, on the other hand, includes a refillable tank along with the mod itself. You'll connect the tank to the mod, fill the tank with e-liquid and vape.
When you read the description for a vape mod, you'll see whether the mod uses a fixed internal battery or removable batteries. Note that when a mod uses removable batteries, it usually doesn't include the batteries. Grab your top quality EFEST 18650 batteries before checking out. Many box mods require two batteries, please ensure the 18650 batteries you use can be used with vape devices. For example Samsung 18650 batteries are NOT recommended for use in vape devices.
Coil Replacements Are Part of the Vape Mod Experience
In a vaping device, the atomizer coil goes through a constant cycle of heating and cooling. Eventually, the heat begins to degrade the metal heating wire and cotton wick. When you're no longer getting the performance out of the coil that you once did, it's time to replace the coil. Depending on how frequently you vape and what type of e-liquid you use, a coil may last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On this page, you'll find the replacement coils for all of the vape mods we sell. The SMOK Alien, for example, uses SMOK TFV8 Baby Beast coils. We suggest adding a box of replacement coils to your cart before checking out.
Vape Mods and Your Inhaling Style
If you're currently using a traditional e-cigarette, one thing you need to know about upgrading to a vape mod is that the upgrade will likely require you to change your inhaling style and reduce the strength of your e-liquid. With a traditional e-cigarette, you inhale the vapour from the mouth to the lungs as if you were smoking a cigarette. A vape mod, on the other hand, is a more powerful device with significantly greater vapour production. To achieve that level of vapour production, a mod needs airflow that's smooth and free – and with that kind of airflow, you'll inhale the vapour directly into your lungs. You'll also need to use an e-liquid with a lower nicotine strength to compensate for the increased vapour production. Direct-to-lung inhaling means that you'll enjoy bold flavours with little throat hit. Many long-term vapers prefer that style of inhaling because they no longer crave throat hit as they did when they first quit smoking. If you'd rather continue inhaling from the mouth to the lungs, though, try a smaller vape mod such as the Innokin Kroma-R; it's compatible with both inhaling styles, and that gives you an opportunity to experiment.
